February seems to be offering a lot of interesting Nollywood movies to see at the cinemas. With each passing year, Nollywood producers keep raising the bar and we love to see it. Smarting from the critical acclaim for recent releases like  Sugarush,  Living in Bondage II, the likes of Samuel Olatunji, Emem Isong, Funmi Holder and more intend to raise the bar a little further with their flicks this month.

Uche Jombo, Nkem Owoh, Kehinde Bankole, Odunlade Adekola and Eucharia Anunobi are some of the actors featured in the movies to watch this month.

 EFUNSETAN ANIWURA

Release Date : January 31st 2020

Efunsetan Aniwura tells the story of a powerful and wealthy. This woman lost her only child and became depressed. She was one of the most powerful and influential Yoruba women in Nigeria at the time. She moved to Ibadan after her marriage to Ajani. This story details her trials, triumphs and eventual fall from grace. It is one of the most motivating thrillers in Yoruba’s political history. Prof. Akinwunmi Ishola wrote a play about it in the sixties and a film adaptation of the play by Ishola was directed by Tunde Kelani in the last decade.

It was produced by Funmi Holder and it is surely one to watch out for in February.

SMALL CHOPS

Release Date: January 31st 2020

Nikita, an afro dancer at a bar catches the attention of Casper, an uptight business mogul. Casper pays for a weekend of private entertainment; things don’t go as planned because Nikita’s self esteem and Casper’s totalitarian attitude cause sparks to fly. At the time they let their guards down, the sparks turn to fireworks.

It was produced by Chika Ike and Serah Donald Onyeachor. The film has already clinched several international film festival awards and selections. Are you excited already?

LEGEND OF INIKPI

The Legend of Inikpi debuted in cinemas nationwide In January, 2020. it has generated a lot of buzz since it’s release especially because, the movie was produced by one of Nigeria’s finest, Mercy Johnson-Okojie. Werecommend it for sure as one of the movies to watch this month.

Beloved of her father, King Attah Ayegba, Mercy Johnson’s ‘The Legend of Inikpi’ is the true story of revered Igala princess ‘Inikpi Oma Ufedo Baba’.When the oracle informs King Attah of Igala Kingdom of the human sacrifice demanded by the gods, the king plunges into despair, haunted by the ghosts of his past; this is a sacrifice he is not prepared to give. The story also tells of the revered Igala princess ‘Inikpi Oma Ufedo Baba’ who chooses to give her life for the freedom of her homeland.

DEAR AFFY

Release Date: 14th of February.

Dear Affy is a romantic comedy which follows a beautiful career lady, about to get married to the man of her dream. He is on the verge of sealing millions of Naira worth of contract with a conglomerate in a construction industry. However, he is faced with the devil and the deep blue sea as sealing the contract is hinged on him having an intimate affair with the female billionaire contractor by all means just few weeks to his wedding.

‘Billionaire’ crooner, Teniola also makes her acting debut in ‘Dear Affy’. The movie was produced and directed by journalist, PR expert Samuel Olatunji. Dear Affy is recommended as one of the movies to see this Valentine.

SPECIAL JOLLOF

Release date: 28th of February

‘Special Jollof’ is a story about Rachel Hudson who was having the time of her life. She had a loving fiancé, a successful and thriving journalism career, everything for her was just perfect… Until a shocking discovery sends her perfect life shattering before her eyes, giving rise to her grudge against immigrants who she holds responsible for her woes. As her revenge, Rachel is determined to expose illegal immigrants and have them deported.

It was shot partly in the USA and in Nigeria and features an international cast of talented actors. Definitely one of the movies to watch this month.
