The nominations for the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony were released on Tuesday, 15th November by The Recording Academy, which runs the Grammys. The 2023 Grammy Awards Show is scheduled to take place on February 5 2023 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This 2023 Grammys eligibility year runs from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022.

This year, Billboard reported that 368 artists have submitted to the best new artist category for the 2023 Grammy nominations. 11-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift is back on the nominations table for Red (Taylor’s Version) and her All Too Well: The Short Film Of course. As expected, there is some major competition between “Easy on Me” singer Adele, “About Damn Time” singer Lizzo, and “As It Was” crooner Harry Styles. Ultimately, there is Beyoncé, who dropped Renaissance in July.

While all these big names are dominating the table, we are particularly highlighting the Nigerian artistes (both at home and in diaspora) who were spotted on the nominations table.

Special report on the Beyoncé nominations. (First published by WSJ Mag)

Pop-R&B superstar Beyoncé has more nominations than any other artist, with nine nods, including in top categories like album of the year (for “Renaissance,” her highly-regarded homage to dance music) and record and song of the year (for “Break My Soul,” its lead single).

That brings her to a total of 88 career-wide nominations. Beyoncé is now tied with her husband Jay-Z for the most nominations in Grammy history. (He picked up five this year.) Beyoncé is already the most-awarded female Grammy winner, with 28 awards. If she wins four more, she will break the record for most Grammy wins of any recipient.

2023 Grammys

Despite her extremely long list of nods and wins, Beyoncé has only won one of the four most prestigious Grammys (album of the year, song and record of the year, best new artist) in her roughly 25-year career as a solo artist and member of R&B group Destiny’s Child.

This begs the question; Will Beyoncé one of the most celebrated music stars of the 21st century finally conquer the Grammy Awards? That leaves to be seen if you ask G!
