Following a recent project from his collaboration with Netflix and a stellar career as one of Nollywood’s leading filmmakers; we have our man of the week, Kunle Afolayan.
Afolayan is a Nigerian actor, film producer, and film director, who broke into full-time filmmaking in 2005; when he took a course at the New York Film Academy. In his almost two decades in the Nigerian film industry, he has created blockbuster movies. One is Figurine; Araromire, which won five major awards at the African Film Academy and was successful in Nigerian movie theatres. Kunle is credited for the big movie hits like October 1, Citation and others.
In 2013, at the first edition of the Nollywood Week in Paris; his movie Phone Swap premiered and won the Public Choice Award. In 2021, Kunle was nominated as the most searched actor at the Net Honours.
Collaboration with Netflix
His recent project, Anikulapo is part of the three-feature film deal he signed with Netflix in 2021. The movie “Anikulapo” is a collaboration between Netflix and Kunle Afolayan’s “KAP Motion Picture”. The movie loosely chronicles the story of a young man’s journey to greener pastures in the ancient Oyo Kingdom. Some notable casts from the film include; Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Hakeem Kae Kazim, Mr Macaroni and others.
The trailer was released earlier today, while the movie will begin streaming on Netflix on September 30.
