Michael Collins Ajereh known professionally as Don Jazzy is a Nigerian record producer. He is the founder and CEO of Mavin Records. Don Jazzy was co-owner of the now-defunct Mo’ Hits Records record label with D’banj. The music executive has spent over two decades in the Nigerian music industry transitioning from; a music artist and co-owner of a record label to founder and owner of one of the country’s most renowned record labels.
Career as a record label boss
Since announcing a new record label on 7 May 2012; Don Jazzy has created a record label that is fast becoming the powerhouse of music in Africa.
His ability to spot talents and turn them into superstars is highly commendable. The social media space was awash over the past week with positive comments about the label boss over his new signee. From Rema, Ayra Starr, Magixx, and Boy Spyce; all of these signees are currently creating major waves in the music industry. They are accomplishing this in various ways, from selling out shows to collaborations with global music stars. And just last week, he unveiled a new singer, Bayanni as an addition to his star-studded record label.
In 2012, Don Baba said; “ I see Mavin Records being the power house of Music in Africa in the shortest possible time”. We can all agree this is fast becoming a reality.
