Did you know that on the first day of each month, and every other week in the month, the biggest streaming services available add dozens of new movies to their digital libraries? While some of the movies are brand new, others are older movies that came out before streaming platforms were birthed. If you didn’t know this before now, you’re welcome.

Here are 10 movies you can expect to see this week from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and HBO Max.

Monster’s Ball (Hulu)

Plot: Hank Grotowski is a prison guard whose son, who works on the prison’s death row, commits suicide. Grotowski spirals into depression until one night he helps Leticia Musgrove’s injured son. When he dies, the couple is united by grief, but as their relationship develops, he learns he and his son were party to the execution of her husband.

Cast: Halle Berry, Billy Bob Thornton, Heath Ledger, Sean Combs, Mos Def, and others.

Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn (HBO Max)

Plot: This documentary tells the story of Yusuf Hawkins, a black teenager who was murdered in 1989 by a group of young white men in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Yusuf Hawkins’ death and the official response to it sparked outrage in New York, unleashing a torrent of racial tension and spurring tireless civil rights activism that exposed deep racial prejudices and inequities which continue to plague the country today.

Nightcrawler (Netflix)

Plot: Los Angeles denizen Louis Bloom survives by scavenging and petty theft. He stumbles into a new career as a cameraman and begins nocturnal forays across the city in search of shocking and grisly crimes. When he catches the eye of a shopworn news director who welcomes the chance to raise her station’s ratings, Louis goes to increasingly greater lengths to catch the “money shot.”

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed, Bill Paxton, Kevin Rahm, and others.

The Lost Husband (Netflix)

Plot: Trying to put her life back together after the death of her husband, Libby and her children move to her estranged Aunt’s goat farm in central Texas.

Cast: Leslie Bibb, Josh Duhamel, Nora Dunn, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Sharon Lawrence, and others.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (Netflix)

Plot: The life of Air Force pilot, Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian female pilot in combat.

Cast:  Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar Singh and Manav Vij.

Director: Sharan Sharma.

Scary Movie 5 (Netflix)

Plot: Much bizarre activity follows after a husband and wife bring their newborn infant home from the hospital. When they realize that a demon is stalking their family, they consult paranormal specialists and install numerous cameras to drive out the pesky spirit.

Cast: Simon Rex, Ashley Tisdale, Jerry O’Connell, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and others.

Safety Not Guaranteed (Netflix)

Plot: A disaffected magazine intern befriends an unusual guy, who is looking for a partner to accompany him on a trip back through time.

Cast: Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, Jenica Bergere and others.

Capone (Amazon Prime)

Plot: Chronicling the final days of notorious gangster Al Capone as he succumbs to dementia and relives his past through tormenting memories.

Cast: Tom Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Noel Fisher, Kyle MacLachlan, and others.

Hard Night Falling (Amazon Prime & Hulu)

Plot: An Interpol agent must battle a ruthless crime boss and his mercenaries at an Italian villa in order to save his wife and daughter.

Cast: Dolph Lundgren, Hal Yamanouchi, Natalie Burn, Mario Opinato and Brice Martinet.

Director: Giorgio Bruno.

Lucky Day (Amazon Prime & Hulu)

Plot : After being released from prison, a safecracker tries to protect his family from a psychopathic contract killer who’s seeking revenge.

Cast: Nina Dobrev, Crispin Glover, Ella Ryan Quinn, Clé Bennett and Clifton Collins Jr.
