The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost, aired Monday night on NBC.  Biggest winners of the night were The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which won five awards including outstanding comedy and GameofThrones that nabbed the top prize for outstanding drama series.

Director Glenn Weiss, saved the Emmys which was really just day (same Emmy tradition) by delivering what became the biggest moment of the night. In true director fashion, Weiss proposed to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen while accepting the Emmy for outstanding directing for a variety special.

The audience erupted into cheers, tears and laughter, an astonished Svendsen was encouraged from her seat to the stage. Weiss proposed with his mother’s wedding ring in honour of her recent death. “This is the ring that my dad put on my mom’s finger 67 years ago. And to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it. Dad knows I have it, O.K.?” Weiss said jokingly. Svendsen of course said yes and the two walked off the stage to live happily ever after. Would he have proposed if he hadn’t won? In Kanye West’s voice, guess we’ll never know!
