Met Gala 2019: The year’s most talked about fashion event is back and we were taking notes!
This legendary annual event had the world’s biggest names taking risks on the pink carpet. The Met Gala 2019 is themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion” which is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on Camp.” With the fashion aesthetics and a theme dedicated to over-the-top ensembles, one is left to wonder what eccentric fashion statements would strut the bubble gum pink carpet. The stars did not disappoint and whilst some wear confused or just didn’t bother to follow the theme (Kanye West, Gisele Bundchen to name a few), many of the stars stayed on theme with some being very dedicated ala katy Perry, Janelle Monae, Priyanka Chopra and more.

Lupita Nyong’o
Hair, makeup, dress… Lupita Nyongo was everything camp and more in Versace. Her hair was inspired by Marie Antoinette
Naomi Campbell
Naomi Campbell (Her name even has camp in it!) was perfection in Pier Paolo Piccioli for Valentino Haute Couture and she had the pose to match!
Cardi B
Cardi B is giving us some Rihanna in Rei Kawakubo vibes with this look. From headpiece to sleeves and train, the rapper stopped everything on the pink carpet in Thom BrowneSpeaking of going gaga, the pop star arrived in a hot pink parachute trained gown by Brandon Maxwell with an umbrella holding entourage. She promptly strips down to a black strapless dress before revealing another skin-tight barbie pink dress paired with a massive retro phone and finally strips down to a black underwear set paired with sheer stocking and a wagon prop. Emily Ratajkowski channeled the queen of camp, Cher, in this bold Dundas dress, teamed with a winged headpiece, reminiscent of one of Cher’s Bob Mackie looks.

“She’s your queeeeen to beeee” Ciara was giving us Coming to America vibes in this green wonder by Peter Dundas, crowning it off with big Diana Ross hair. That’s how you do camp!

Katy Perry will always get on our list as long as she keeps wearing jaw-dropping outfits to the MET and staying committed to the theme with such dedication. I mean, Moschino is camp and camp is Moschino, couldn’t have had a better designer/star!

Saoirse Ronan was the real mother of dragons, breathing fire on the pink carpet in this Gucci dress.
