“One important key to success is self-confidence. A key to self-confidence is preparation”. – Arthur Ashe

Make Decisions Yourself

“Trust your instincts, and make judgements on what your heart tells you. The heart will not betray you.” – David Gemmell

When faced with a tough decision, it is quite common to be overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, pressured, confused and even distracted. It’s important to be true to ourselves and what we value in life. When you factor into a decision the things that are important to you, the best option might become obvious. Don’t ever give people power to determine your choices and decisions. Look inward and do what’s best for you no matter what the outcome is at the end of the day.

Speak With Confidence

“All you need is something to say, and a burning desire to say it… it doesn’t matter where your hands are.”– Lou Holtz

When you articulate your thoughts clearly it rubs off on your confidence level. Never be afraid to speak your truth or say your mind. Speak clearly and avoid “umms”. If you can’t make a decision on the spot, then ask for more time for you to think things through.

Speak out when you feel there is a need to talk. Maintain an even tone of voice and finish your statements with periods, not question marks.

Don’t Seek Validation

“Approval is a lover who will always break your heart.” – Sammy Rhodes

The need for approval creates immense anxiety about the value you provide and will cause you to spend far too much time on tasks in order to perfect them. Do not constantly make choices to avoid disapproval or criticism, rather do what is most valuable, effective or important to you.

Strengthen your inner resolve so that you feel confident enough to go with what feels right for you. This way, you will no longer feel the need to look to others to feel good enough about your choices and decisions.

How to build confidence

Also be honest with yourself when you take on a new task or commitment. Always ask yourself whether you are doing it because it is right for you or because you want to get approval and avoid disapproval.

Lend A Helping Hand to Someone

“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” – John Holmes

Extending a helping hand not only vanishes tears off their face, but also acts as a morale booster for one. By helping others to grow, we grow in the process too and it adds value and meaning to our lives.

Lend a helping hand

Each person may have a different need in his/her life. While some yearn for success, some don’t have the most basic amenities such as a shelter or enough food to eat. But that’s not all, some people may be in need of mere affection. Donate money, food, or, clothing, spread love and smiles, give some of your valuable time and extend help through charity organizations.

Know Your Principles & Live By Them

“The principles we live by, in business and in social life, are the most important part of happiness. We need to be careful, upon achieving happiness, not to lose the virtues which have produced it.” – Harry Harrison

Principles are things that someone discovers in their own life and realizes it can be true for others. Principles cut through the challenges of daily life and give us truth that can withstand any difficult situation. What are the principles upon which your life is built? If you don’t know, you will have trouble, because your life will feel directionless.

How to build confidence

Stop trying to please other people or be someone else. It’s better to be an original version of yourself than an exact duplicate of someone else. Focus on your own path, and walk that path, regardless of others opinions.
