Pop Icon, Taylor Swift Becomes First Solo Artist to Perform Eight Times at London’s Wembley Stadium During a Single Tour
Taylor Swift has made history yet again, becoming the first solo artist to perform at London’s Wembley Stadium eight times in a single tour. The 34-year-old pop sensation surpassed the previous record held by Michael Jackson, who performed seven times at the iconic venue during his Bad World Tour in 1988.
Taylor Swift Makes Historic Achievement
On August 20, during her final 2024 performance at Wembley, Swift expressed her gratitude to the sold-out crowd. “You just made me the first solo artist to ever play Wembley eight times in a single tour,” she said, as reported by the BBC. “We will never, ever be able to thank you enough for it.”
The Final European Leg
Swift’s milestone performances at Wembley included three nights in June, followed by an additional five shows in August, marking the grand finale of the European leg of her Eras Tour. The tour, which began in March 2023, has been a record-breaking spectacle, with Swift captivating audiences across the globe.
Record-Breaking Tour Moments
Earlier this summer, Swift’s show in Edinburgh, Scotland, made headlines when the sheer energy of the crowd caused seismic activity, earning the event the nickname “Swift Quake.” In June, her Wembley performances also set a new record for the most mobile data used during a standalone concert, with 5.57 TB of data consumed—equivalent to streaming Swift’s entire discography non-stop for a decade, according to mobile service provider EE.
Tour Challenges
However, the tour hasn’t been without its challenges. In early August, a terrorist plot in Vienna led to the cancellation of all three scheduled shows in the Austrian capital, causing concern among fans about the London performances. Despite the heightened security, the Metropolitan Police reassured the public that the London shows would proceed as planned, stating there was “nothing to indicate” any threat to the upcoming events.
Final Performances and Special Guests
Swift’s final shows at Wembley featured special appearances by longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, as well as fellow musicians Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch. To the delight of her fans, Swift also performed a surprise rendition of “So Long, London” from her latest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department—a fitting tribute to the city where she made history.
