It is no longer news that “The New Normal”, a Nigerian Dramedy is out and thriving in over 51 cinemas in Nigeria. It has premiered and it doing very well as a directorial debut of the brilliant Teniola Olatoni.
The New Normal was written by Tunde Babalola – one of Nigeria’s most notable scriptwriters, with critically acclaimed movies such as Last Flight to Abuja, October 1 and Citation under his creative belt. The dramedy features some of the biggest names in Nollywood including Richard Mofe Damijo, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Bimbo Akintola, Kehinde Bankole, Yemi Blaq, Femi Jacobs, Broda Shaggi, Meg Otanwa, Mofe Duncan and many more.
The New Normal revolves around the lives of four couples and a single friend as they navigate individual and collective issues of discrimination, misogyny, addiction, mental health, infertility and nepotism while trying their best to keep up appearances and escape society’s suffocating boots with their often hilarious and always surprising results; thus, finding their way to a whole new normal.
It was a night of fun, laughter, good food and great reviews at the exclusive premiere of “The New Normal” at Film House Cinema, Lekki. It was hosted by Glazia Global representative Benedicta Omoruyi as guests enjoyed canapés, cocktails, photographs and good conversations.
The screening had in attendance Industry big shots such as; Ultimate love’s newlyweds Chris and Chris, Media sweet heart; Simi Drey, BBNaija finest Nelson and Soma alongside other celebrities such as; Hit Boy, Ike & Theresa from the newly concluded reality TV show, Ultimate love, amongst others.
At the end of the movie guests were entertained with food from the famous Signature lounge and had good things to say about the New Normal. The host went around inquiring from guests what they learnt from the movie and what their ratinsg were and it was amazing to see guests make a long list of lessons and most of them scored the movie 9.5/10. With all the the good things guests had to say, it is safe to rate the movie a 5 star one with cinematic excellence.
As everyone enjoyed their meal, Associate producer of the movie, Tobi Olanihun, gave a closing speech where she expressed her thanks for honoring the event and the many good things fans and collagues had to say about the movie. She expressed the Directors thanks as well and right then we realized that Indeed… Teniola Olatoni’s directorial debut was an instant hit among Nollywood’s finest.
The New Normal has already bagged some international awards including the Best International Narrative at the annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Jury Awards, and the award for Best African Female Filmmaker at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) as it continues to receive worldwide attention and critical acclaim.
