I have been dragged out of my movie review retirement once again by Inkblot Productions and if I am writing you know it’s good (yes this is me bragging small). Today I’ll be sharing everything I love about their new movie directed by Zulumoke Oyibo “The Betrayed”. It’s Zulu’s directorial debut and I must say SHE SNAPPED HARD!
Walk With Me as I review “The Betrayed”
Uche Montana!
First, I’d like to state that I first watched a movie with Uche Montana “A Weekend To Forget” by Inkblot Productions. Maybe they felt the bombastic side-eye I gave them for her tiny role which she bodied by the way. When I saw that she was playing lead in “The Betrayed” I flew out of my chair in excitement. I have been watching her YouTube movies and she just sucks you in with so much ease. It’s like she says “Hey look at me nothing else matters just me”
What an actor Uche Montana is! Her facial expressions are golden. The way she stepped into her character was a rollercoaster of emotions. I listened to her interview with Rhythm FM and she mentioned some scenes were so heavy it took her a while to step out of character and I understood after watching the movie. That slap she landed on Gabriel Afolayan? Phew. Someone might have to put it on a loop for me to watch over and over because you could tell she was no longer Uche Montana she was Amarachi the woman who lost her joy. She breaks the scale of a 10/10 acting. SHE DEY ACT PIECES!!!
Zulumoke Oyibo – The Director
It’s Zulumoke Oyibo’s directorial debut and I wonder why she chose this movie. Was it a great choice? Of course, it was. Brilliant in directing and she needs a raise if there is room for that. She brought all these actors together and pulled out something so beautiful from each of them. I mean Vine Olugu’s character could somehow balance being a fun person and knowing how to get down to business and that’s what happens when a great director and actor work together.
Vine Olugu.
I say he is the sunshine of the movie. It was so heavy and intense and his character found a way to make it happy and light. He made it so easy but you can tell it’s Kunle you are watching and not Vine. Such a class act.
The Acting!
Gabriel Afolayan, Jemima Osunde, Ibrahim Suleiman they were all splendid as always.
Ibrahim played Batista and it was so good seeing him step into a different role. You would expect him to play Bala but the gods spoke to Zulu and she listened. He played Batista so well I wondered if it’s the same person whose tweet I read and it is the coolest thing. I think that’s the beauty of acting. Being able to step into roles and make it so believable viewers will question your real character.
Gabriel did what he had to do and played Bala so well you’ll remember every single facial expression whether you see him or not. Once again sorry for the slap but wetin Bala self do nor good.
Jemima, I hope you have space for this best friend thing because I want to join. So firm, so fierce and a true rider.
Every single one of the cast brought their A-Game and will have you glued to your seat and the screen from start to finish.
Bonus!
At first I missed the other pockets of betrayal that went on in the movie. When I was done watching and started analysing I realised it wasn’t just Amarachi that was betrayed. Well played Naz and Tosan. You wove such a beautiful script.
Kudos to the entire team. It’s a 9/10 from me I am keeping that 1 because you people did my boy Kunle dirty and the forgiveness is hanging in the air.
The Betrayed is out in cinemas nationwide, go see it and come tell us what you love the most about the movie.
