Glazia Black History Month 2022 – Chioma Ude
“I mostly overcome my challenges with doggedness. When I bite, I don’t let go till it comes to fruition.”
Chioma Ude is founder and executive director of Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). She is also the founder of Envivo Tech and Communications as well as Envivo Film and Animation Institute.
Her passion for the film industry grew intense after she had a hand in the production of the 2007 Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) UK Roadshow. Fast forward a few years, with her involvement in numerous awards ceremonies, movies and so on; Chioma started The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
About AFRIFF
AFRIFF is a world-class showcase that presents a complete immersion into the world of filmmaking. With participation from local and international filmmakers and professionals. Such as celebrities, actors, directors, film critics, buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, equipment manufacturers, and international press. AFRIFF is committed to organically grow the biggest showcase for African Films and Filmmakers.
Apart from playing a pivotal role in changing the narrative in filmmaking in Africa, Chioma sees her work as a great opportunity to empower more women.
In her interview with Guardian News in 2019, she explained what her focus was for AFRIFF. “We have to improve the lives of women. With more women empowered, hopefully, we could make a great change. We are focusing on more female films, more female directors, and then going forward, our training has to include 60 per cent female.”
