The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards (EMMYs 2022) went down Monday night (Sept. 12) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where television’s best and brightest were honored for their work over the past year. Keenan Thompson of “Saturday Night Live” fame hosted the show. 

“Succession” and “Ted Lasso” topped the Emmy Awards on Monday, in a ceremony that highlighted the influence of TV. Saturday Night Live, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Zendaya, Jean Smart, Quinta Brunson, Amanda Seyfried, Julia Garner, Jerrod Carmichael, Jason Sudeikis and Michael Keaton also were among the winners.

Black women who made history at the EMMYs 2022

However, we are here for some incredible black women who won EMMys this year; Zendaya, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Quinta Brunson and Lizzo!

Zendaya who won the award for “Best Actress in a Drama Series” for Euphoria, became the first Black woman to win the Emmy for this category, twice. She is also the youngest two-time winner in Emmys history.

Sheryl Lee Ralph also made a unforgettable win at last night’s EMMYs, when she took home her first career Emmy win for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series” in Abbott Elementary. She also became the second black woman in history to win in this category, after Jackie Harry who it 35 years ago.

Lizzo also got an Emmy win for “Outstanding Competition Series” for her show “Watch Out for Big Grrrls.”

Quinta Brunson won the award for “Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series”
