Established in 1983 by Consumers International, this annual celebration serves as a reminder that consumers should be protected, informed, and treated fairly in the marketplace.

With the rise of digital transactions, e-commerce, and globalised trade, consumer rights have become more important than ever. This day is not only about recognising these rights but also about advocating for stronger policies, ethical business practices, and consumer empowerment worldwide.

3 – The Right to Choose – Consumers should have a variety of products and services at fair prices.

4 – The Right to Be Heard – Consumer interests should be represented in policy-making.

Over time, these rights have expanded to include privacy protection, environmental sustainability, and digital security, making World Consumer Rights Day more relevant than ever.

Each year, Consumers International selects a theme that addresses a major consumer-related issue. For 2025, the theme is “Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers.” As artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into daily life—shaping everything from online shopping to financial services—ensuring ethical AI practices and data privacy has become a top priority.
