Still fresh into the New Year, we take a look back at last year. 2017 was a strong year for fashion globally and Nigeria was not left out. People took fashion risks and were willing to push the envelope.  Young, local designers and fashion bloggers appeared stronger on the scene. A great number of celebrities were more happy to wear African designs to major events, increasing visibility for the African, especially Nigerian designers.  From Ebuka’s showstopping agbada, to Tiwa Savage’s black swan dress, to Ufuoma McDermott’s red moment, the Wellingtons and more, we have curated some of the most iconic fashion moments of 2017 in no particular order.

TOKE MAKINWA

Toke Makinwa hosted the 2017 Elite Model Look event channeling her inner princess with a Cinderella inspired haute couture gown by Gert-Johan Coetzee.  Aside from the top of the dress which looks a little bit ill fitting, there is nothing mellow about this yellow, it is beauty and class all rolled in one.

MEN IN WHITE – BOVI UGBOMA & MELVIN ODUAH

It was tough to choose between these two dapper gentlemen so why not just put them both? Plus, more eye candy for the ladies! Well-tailored and fitted to perfection, Bovi and Melvin sure know how to rock a suit. The way they both chose to accessorize their outfits, were individual winning moves.

UFUOMA MCDERMOTT

For her Christmas is Coming movie premiere, Ufuoma sparkled in a red dress with beautiful fringe detail by Victoria Funmi Lakanu (VFL) Official.  Perfectly posed on the stairs wearing the simple, yet intricate dress was a major fashion moment for the actress.

SOMKELE IYAMAH-IDHALAMA

Somkele stepped on the AMVCA 2017 red carpet in this dress by Andrea Iyamah and it was obvious that she was a winner. Well thought out, not over the top, simply elegant; even the thigh high slit was perfect!
