On the 13th of October, the prestigious Oriental Hotel ballroom in Victoria Island, Lagos, played host to “The Mental Health Conference 2.0.” This grand event brought together a diverse group of mental health and wellness professionals, elite attendees, industry leaders, press crews, and well-meaning Nigerians. Organised by the renowned psychotherapist and Africa’s leading mental health advocate, Dr. Maymunah Yusuf-Kadiri, who boasts over two decades of experience, the conference featured guests from all over Nigeria, parts of Africa, and a robust online audience from around the globe.

The event kicked off with an elaborate red carpet affair, where guests showcased their exquisite and extravagant outfits, adhering to the evening’s dress code of “Razzle Dazzle & Fabulous.” Red carpet host Mayowa Durojaye welcomed guests with her warm, bright smile, engaging them in conversations about their expectations for the event.
Opening Ceremony: Welcoming Dignitaries
The main event commenced at exactly 2 pm, with Joyce Daniel, popularly known as the queen of talk, serving as the main host. She welcomed attendees to the second edition of The Mental Health Conference and acknowledged the presence of special guests and dignitaries.
Inspirational Moments: Speeches and Performances
The incredible Miki Ikhifa opened the conference with a wonderful sax rendition of the new national anthem, setting a soulful tone for the day. Following this, Dr. Maymunah Yusuf-Kadiri delivered an inspiring address. Reflecting on the success of the first conference, she emphasised the importance of exploring the theme of identity this year:
“Following the success of the first instalment of the Mental Health Conference last year, we have returned to discuss crucial topics that are affecting and disrupting millions of lives in Nigeria and around the world. This year, we decided to focus on a fundamental aspect of mental well-being that often goes unexplored – ‘our sense of identity’.”

Keynote Address: A Journey to Self-Discovery
Mrs. Betty Irabor took the stage next for her keynote address, sharing her personal journey of self-discovery and the significance of becoming aware of one’s identity.

The event featured solo prolific speakers such as popular Nigerian actor Deyemi Okanlawon, award-winning actress Beverly Osu, and renowned musician Timi Dakolo. Each speaker shared personal stories and profound insights on the theme “IDENTITY.”
The conference also included powerful panel sessions, catering to both men and women. The Bold Women Panel, moderated by Yetunde Bankole-Bernard, included Queen Uwabuofu, Osen Iyahen, Florentina Agu, and Rewa as panellists. The Bold Men Panel, moderated by Joyce Daniels, featured Denrele Edun, Chimezie Imo, and Jide Kene Achufusi.
Entertainment: Music and Dance Performances
The conference was not only informative but also thoroughly enjoyable. Musical performances by Nigerian songbird Evelle Music provided soothing melodies, while a special dance performance by Tobest Troupe captivated the audience.

The event concluded with a profound presentation by licensed therapist Queen Murielle, focusing on healing and helping attendees view themselves in a deeper light.
