The essence of having a morning playlist for different reasons is quite underrated. Although it may seem easy to play songs via your device, doesn’t it annoy you when you have to stop what you’re doing or skip a song because it doesn’t suit your mood?

For instance, when you’re doing chores on a Saturday, you probably want to listen to podcasts or some old school songs. Also, when driving or working out, you may want your playlist to be quite upbeat.

In the same vein, if you’re a morning person, that is, you wake early and do activities at the same time, you would need a playlist that respects that hour of the day.

Consequently, Glazia has made a list of songs you can enjoy in the morning whether you love to wake and be upbeat immediately or cosy in your bed for some time.

Lost Boy by Ruth B. (Pop)

“Never land is home to lost boys like me…”

Released in 2017, this song was Ruth B’s way of claiming she’s immune to auto-tune. Her voice, so raw, pierces silence in a soft way and the storytelling technique of the song endears you to the stillness and peace of mornings.

Recommended for listening at 5 am.

Fire On Fire by Sam Smith (R&B/Soul)

“Fire on fire would normally kill us. But this much desire, together, we’re winners..”

Sam Smith has a record of singing to make you feel comfortable just as Ed Sheeran’s songs make you feel in love. This song is a part of his ‘Let’s Dance: Das Tazalbum’ album which also contains songs like Try, Next To Me, Tangled Up, among others.

Fire On Fire is suitable for 6am-ish, when the dawn is breaking but your blinds aren’t open yet.

Closer by Chainsmokers FT Halsey

“So, baby, pull me closer, In the back seat of your Rover… “

The sync of the voices in this song is best suited for a movement chore like ironing or sweeping. Also, the time suitable for it is around 7am, so you don’t disturb the neighbours. However, it could also be listened to while you wash the car or get ready for work.

Bellyache by Billie Eilish

“Maybe it’s the gutter where I left my lover, what an expensive fake…”

Almost all Billie’s songs are suitable for mornings. Her soothing voice and storytelling technique puts you at a crossroad to either sing along or immerse yourself in the art.

Bellyache was released in 2017 and recommended to be listened to at say 6am

7 Years by Lukas Graham

“Once I was seven years old, my mama told me… “

Here’s another storytelling song with a soothing sound and voice. In 7 years, Lucas Graham gives a sequence of imaginary or real events experienced from ages  7 to the future (60 years old).

Recommended for listening as early as 5am.

Hold On by Chord Overstreet

“Hold on, I still want you. Come back, I still need you..“

This ballad was sung by Chord as a tribute to a friend, so its storytelling stemmed from a myriad of emotions. In essence, it is well understood in the quietness of mornings while you’re still cozied up in bed.

Recommended for listening at 5 am.

Dandelions by Ruth B.

“Cause I’m in a field of dandelions. Wishing on every one, that you’ll be mine, mine..”

Ruth B makes it to the list again because of her consistent storytelling technique. Dandelion, a part of her album titled Safe Haven, is a song she sang, according to her, when she looked out of her window and saw a dandelion. Perhaps this is what makes Ruth B unique; that she makes music raw and relatable and most importantly, simple.

Recommended to be listened to at 6 am

Forgive by Chike

“Please, forgive oh, onye jin madu chukwu meya..”

Chike’s Boo of the Booless broke the internet when it was released, majorly  because of its different genre; and talented singer, Chike, who also was 1st runner up  at the season one of The Voice Nigeria

Forgive, one of the songs in the album, details the importance of letting go of the past and forgiving oneself and others. One of the reasons Chike is loved is for infusing igbo into his lyrics.

Recommended to be listened to at 5 am.
