This Is a struggle that most Nigerians deal with especially now that most purchase is online and digital marketing is improving everyday.
Professional security and investment officer Benedicta Omoruyi discuss the intricacies of impulse buying and the dangers that come with it, on her YouTube channel “Finance Chit-Chat”, dedicated to improving the financial literacy of millennials and the general public of Nigeria.
In the YouTube video, she started with defining impulse buying and how it usually starts with scenarios relatable to the struggles of this finance ill.
Interesting point from the video includes;
1) Impulse buying usually starts when and if you have daily, weekly or monthly pay. This feeds you with the illusion that you have money and so you can afford “Emergency spending”
2) Social media can play a huge part in impulse buying as a result of targeted digital marketing
3) Peer pressure also play a huge role. An event, birthday dinners, and even weddings can play a huge role in this struggle
4) The dangers of impulse buying were also discussed in the video.
5) This includes but is not limited to money desperation, Violence, No financial savings sense, debt and so much more
6) How do we curb these dangers and stop ourselves from going into a financial well? This includes but not limited to Having an accountability partner, Patience, making up your mind to save, having an automated saving system connected to your bank account and so many more
