Food facts do not exactly come to mind when we are eating our favourite foods, or any food at all. It goes without saying that there are quite a number of reasons why we eat food. We can eat food for nutritional purposes, or just for guilty pleasures.
Water does not expire.
The expiration dates on bottled water have nothing to do with the water itself. This is because water can’t expire. However, the bottle containing the water can and does expire.
Plastic bottles will eventually start leaking chemicals into the water after a while. Interestingly too, It won’t make the water harmful to drink, it would just make the water not taste so fresh.
Pufferfish can kill you.
Pufferfish is a very lethal specie of fish with enough toxins in it to kill up to 30 adult humans. Sadly, there is no known antidote for its toxin.
That notwithstanding, Pufferfish is a delicacy in Japan. If properly cooked, you are fine however, if it is prepared wrong, it can kill the person eating it. As a result of this complexity, any chef who wants to serve pufferfish has to undergo a two years training in order to qualify. Amazing right?

Back in the day, the pound cake got its name from the recipes used in its preparation; one pound of butter, one pound of eggs, and one pound of sugar. Go figure.

Somewhere in the world, there is a pizza that costs a whopping $12,000. This is equivalent to 4,392,000 Naira. Outrageous right? Well, this is why.

Farmed salmon is dyed pink.
Wild salmon is a type of fish that is naturally pink because of all the shrimp they eat. However, farm-raised salmon have a different diet, which means they end up being white.
As a result, in order to make them look like their ocean counterparts, the farmers feed them specific plant pigments.
Lima beans are deadly.
Raw lima beans have lethal amounts of cyanide in them. But, if you cook them thoroughly, you’ll be just fine! This is not scary at all.
South African popcorn may not be popcorn after all.
Should you ever find yourself in South Africa and you feel like eating popcorn or you go to the movies, please be very careful. This is because in South Africa, it is possible to eat roasted termites and ants, while thinking it is popcorn. Ewwww!!!
Russia took a long time to classify beer as being alcoholic.
Not until 2013, beer and other alcohol under 10% ABV were classified as a soft drink in Russia. Hilarious! Until 2013, and even till today, it was common for people in Russia to drink beer in the streets and parks as commonly as you would see soda. Sure you know some people who would have loved this to be in Nigeria.
Music and Alcohol might be related.
Research was carried out, and the experiment showed how people’s drinking habits changed based on the music that was playing. Loud music seemed to make people drink more, and faster.
In other words, certain music can make you drink faster. Explains why our drinking bars in Nigeria have very loud music. Who knew it was a business strategy?
