What a night? Just as victorious as “Living in Bondage” was at the award category, our African celebrities showed up and showed out last night at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), 2020 held at the Eko Convention Center, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The star studded event was a night of glamour, high fashion and shine. Celebrities stepped out in their absolute best. Although there were celebrities and their style team that deserved an ass whooping and grass cutting for the “stunt” they pulled last night. Belts, sashes, damask, gold embroidery were popular with the men tonight. There were hardly any tuxedos which is quite impressive. Shows that the men are beginning to take fashion much more seriously. The women, in usual fashion, went all out with drapes, slits, corsets, trains, shimmer, sequin name it. We will let you see for yourselves, here are our best dressed stars from the 2020 AMVCA.
- Dakore Egbuson Akande
The award winning actor will probably say that being the one to present her brother, fellow actor, Timini Egbuson with his “Best Actor” award will be the highlight of her night. For us, it’s this Swanky Jerry styled black dress designed by Valdrin Sahiti. The off the shoulder dress showed off her neck and arms. The dress features a train attached to her waist and a cute cutout at the hips. Such elegance!
- Mercy Eke
The Big Brother Naija winner looked like a bedazzled Cinderella in this soul snatching dress. She was also styled by Swanky Jerry in a Dona Matoshi blue off the shoulder dress. Although, we would have liked a different choice of colour for her bra, something matching her skin tone, but we can’t deny how amazing this looks. She also won the best dressed female at the AMVCA last night beating a host of other gorgeously dressed celebrities. We also love that she accessorized minimally seeing that the dress is brightly lit already.
- Kunle Remi
Popular “Tinsel” actor left the ladies drooling in a custom made suit styled by The Style Attitude studio and designed by Twif (The Way it Fits). Ladies and gentlemen, we can’t deny that this is a solid yet effortless look. The fabric, colours, the white shirt. Everything about this is perfect. He matched it with a pair of burgundy loafers.
- Layole Oyatogun
Nigerian TV presenter, host and actor Layole looked so beautiful in a ruby coloured off shoulder dress by Erica Moore. The style is simple yet very elegant. The outfit highlighted her curves and the drape at the waist drew attention to her hips. She looks like a star. She accessorized with simple diamond earrings and side swept hair.
- Nana Akua Addo
This look deserves a standing ovation. The Ghanaian actor who is debuting our list was styled by Xodus in a sculpted gown by Gaurav Gupta. You cannot help but marvel at the creativity and execution that went into this look. Fabric, style, hair, makeup, nails, on point. Not a hair out of place. We also loved that she barely accessorized, letting the dress make all the noise. Breathtaking!
- Adesua Etomi-Wellington
The award winning actor was styled by Style Pundit in a sleeveless white illusion gown by Tope FNR. The dress highlighted her complexion, figure and that hair framed her face. We loved that she didn’t wear a lot of accessories. So elegant!!
- Banky W
R’n’B King Banky W, matched his wife -Adesua Etomi-Wellington’s slay at last night’s AMVCA in head to toe black by Ugo Monye. Black cap, black neck tie, black shirt with a studded hem, black pants and black shoes. Banky has never been out of pocket when it comes to fashion, he’s always known his style and has stuck with it.
- Sola Sobowale
The legendary actor looked regal in a royal purple gown and flowing cape by Luminee. When you are the “King of Boys” , you step out like the King that you are. Can you see the gold embroidery adorning the top of this piece?? Wonderful! Perfect! She also barely accessorized which is good and it’s befitting that she paired it with a pair of gold pointy toe heels.
- Jemima Osunde
Jemima is no stranger to our list. Here she is, styled in an off the shoulder ball gown, styled by Style Pundit and designed by Flat 17 Studio. The blue ball gown and detachable train is such an excellent choice as she rocked the other half for the after party instead of getting another dress entirely. You can’t deny that she looks like a princess. Her choice of up do and jewelry locked down this ensemble completely.
- Dénola Grey
Tux but make if off-shoulder. Dénola who is not just an actor is a huge fashion enthusiast and it shows in most of his looks. He attended the AMVCA in an elbow length tux by Mazelle Studio. The tux is no ordinary tux, pleats of different shades of red (darkest to lightest) was added, all branching out from the button at the middle of the tux. He matched it with black bow tie, black gloves, black pants and black blocked heel shoes. This was one of the most outstanding looks of last night and a lot of viewers felt he should have been awarded he award for the best dressed male. What do you think?
- Funke Akindele
Multiple award winning actor and entrepreneur Funke Akindele was styled by the talented Medlin Boss in black dress with a floral bodice. The dress also comes with an attached tail. This is such a red carpet worthy look and we love that it’s not riddled with shimmer or something dazzling. She accessorized with gold purse and rings.
- Princess Onyejekwe
This is one of her best looks on the red carpet in a very long time. This is the designer-Ohlannaya bu Zikora’s debut at the AMVCA and she performed excellently. The Cinderella styled, Victorian corset inspired dress in ombré of orange and burgundy was such a great choice on the BBNaija star and we can’t help but appreciate it. She paired this tasteful piece with diamond jewelry.
- Mike Edwards
Ever seen a proper Englishman? Well here you go. The first runner up of the 2019 BBNaija reality show won best dressed male at the AMVCA last night, in a custom made tux with gold embellishments by Twif. The old English inspired fashion complete with the ruffles and pleats was paired with black pants and boots from David Wej. Such a dashing aristocrat!
- Mercy Aigbe
Nollywood actor who was styled by Seun Olopade in a beckoning dress by Luminee definitely turned heads at last night’s awards. The high collar olive green dress was designed with beaded embroidery across the neckline and also ran from the hips to the floor. The dress also came with an attached pleated train of similar color. She accessorized with gold purse, silver pumps, and silver earrings and ring. Ok slayonce!!
- Stan Nze
Nollywood actor Stan Nze debuts our list looking like the prince of Nollywood dressed in a traditional attire but with a twist. Badesere, the designer made a jacket and pants from Aso Oke fabric embroidered at the collar. He paired this exquisite look with traditional neck and wrist beads, ruby coloured loafers, a matching cap and a staff.
