The 2023 Oscars will air live on ABC on March 12. The nominees and their films, will be honored at the 95th Academy Awards, set to be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This will be the third time—with the TV show host will be Master of Ceremony at the Oscars. Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams announced the 2023 Oscar nominations today, January 24, and as expected, quite a few stars and fan-favorite movies made the list, however, there are some snubs and omissions that some movie fans would call rude and/or even racist.
Major snub for black actors in lead categories.
There were several notable performances from Black actors throughout the year, particularly in the lead actress category. Viola Davis seemed a lock for “The Woman King,” having collected nominations in all the major precursor awards. Danielle Deadwyler’s role in “Till” was one of the most talked-about breakthroughs of the year. But neither actor landed Oscar nominations this morning. Similarly, there were no Black performers nominated in the lead actor category, and we’re asking why?
