It’s been 30 years since the decade started, but that hasn’t stopped these iconic looks from resurfacing, proving how the decade revolutionized the fashion industry. Remember Kate Moss’s iconic sheer dress from 1993? It will go down in fashion history, but it’s not retiring anytime soon. Brandon Maxwell brought back the legendary look for his Fall 2020 during NYFW in February. Here in Nigeria, Award winning singer, song-writer Seyi Shay wore it to the 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards; and they were backlashed by the public. Still she wore it on a date in New York with a mysterious man and the public had more to say including colleagues and friends.

Leather Chokers 

If you didn’t have the chance to explore your inner punk during the ’90s, get excited because chunky leather and chain chokers are back thanks to the Christian Siriano Fall 2020 collection. Bonus if you add a teeny eyeliner heart on your cheek. Representing Nigeria, is Eniola Abioro, a 19-year-old Nigerian Model, who dazzles in an off-white leather choker for off-white in 2018.

Adidas Slides

In the ’90s you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn’t own these fresh slides, and now you wish you didn’t get rid of yours. They’ve been spotted on models from Gigi Hadid to Suki Waterhouse and even Gucci is getting in on the sporty style. In 2015, award winning musician Wizkid was seen rocking Adidas slides with socks and overall camouflage after his xmas performance at the event at Leverkusen.

Bike Shorts

Spandex bike shorts were perfect to wear in or out of the gym, and even figures like Madonna and Princess Diana were fans of the style. They’ve recently been welcomed back into the fashion fold thanks to Kim Kardashian and Off-White—Naomi Campbell modeled a white pair at the brand’s Spring 2018 runway show.

Bucket Hats

Bucket hats were one of those divisive trends—you either loved them or wouldn’t be caught dead in one. But whatever your stance, just know that they appeared at Lacoste’s Fall/Winter 2018 show in Paris, and they actually looked kind of good? Providing both sun protection and style, these casual and cool hats are perfect for weekend ensembles in Nigeria. Whether plain, patterned or featuring a logo, the brimmed hats add an on-trend edge to any outfit and Timni clearly shows that.

Bandanas were such a versatile accessory to have in your ’90s wardrobe, because you could wear them on your hair! Around your neck! As a shirt! The possibilities really were endless. R13 brought them back in its Fall/Winter ’18 runway show complete with a trucker hat and leather cuffs. In Nigeria, award winning artiste Star boy has included it in his personal style and we love it!

Fanny packs bore the brunt of many fashion jokes, but in the ’90s they were revered as a brilliant way to carry all your sh*t hands- free. Today, these genius belt bags are back with a vengeance, spotted on everyone from style bloggers to Kendall Jenner.

Mom jeans are back and better than ever. The high-waisted baggy style has been popularized again thanks to street-style stars, models like Gigi Hadid (pictured here), and clothing brands. Despite all the times the pants have been the butt of fashion jokes, the silhouette is actually flattering as hell.
