Two of music’s most profoundly influential figures, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and Nigerian-British soul legend Sade Adu are officially entering the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.

For millions of fans globally, this dual recognition is phenomenally overdue. The late, great Fela Kuti is being honored with the Early Influence Award, finally cementing his unparalleled legacy. His fearless anti-colonial activism and fusion of jazz, funk, and traditional West African rhythms created Afrobeat, shaping countless artists across generations.

This induction caps off a tremendous year for Fela’s legacy. Notably, in February 2026, Fela made history as the first African artist to receive a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a milestone that closely followed the 2025 induction of his seminal 1976 album, Zombie, into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Joining him in the Performer Category is the undisputed Queen of Cool, Sade Adu. Securing her induction after a second nomination, Sade’s velvety contralto and sophisticated blend of soul, jazz, and pop yielded timeless classics like “Smooth Operator”. She remains a definitive blueprint for contemporary R&B.
